Sessions

Length of Sessions

The first assessment & short session take up to 80 minutes.

Regular sessions are 60 minutes.

Health History Form

Clients or their representatives will be asked to fill out a health history form. It will be emailed after booking an appointment.

What to Wear

Clients remain fully clothed. Please wear (or bring) thin, non-slippery clothing. A cotton T-shirt and shorts, sweat pants or loose yoga pants are ideal.

This is a hands-on therapy, so the practitioner must be able to feel muscles through material. Please do not wear layers, tight spandex-type clothing, jeans, or trousers with pockets. Remove belts, chunky jewelry and footwear.

After Every Session

It is truly important that the client drinks enough water. Water hydrates muscles and other tissue, and helps flush out waste products.

Make it a priority to walk for at least 15 minutes soon after each session. Get up and walk around every 30 minutes for the rest of the day. Walking engages leg muscles which pump out waste via the lymphatic system. Walking stimulates blood flow to areas that need nutrients, thereby helping the body heal. As well, walking is vitally important to enable the musculoskeletal structure to “reset” to normal.

Clients will be in healing mode for up to five days after each session. Clients may feel more tired because the body is diverting energy toward healing. Respect the body’s needs for nutrient-rich food and rest.

Exercise

Physical training and strenuous stretching must be put on hold for the duration of the treatment period. Mild exercise (swimming, gentle stretching, dancing, walking, etc.) is helpful as long as it is not painful. A great deal of the body’s energy will be diverted to healing. The more energy expended on exercise and activity, the less available for healing.

McBride Pain Clinic Policy: No Other Bodywork for the Duration

All other types of bodywork are contraindicated while undergoing this therapy.

During the weeks that the client is having sessions, other manual therapies such as chiropractic care, physiotherapy, massage, shiatsu, osteopathy, etc. must be put on hold. They inhibit the effects of this therapy and may lead to muscle tearing, inflammation and more pain. Healing will be slower, rather than faster. Give this neuromuscular therapy a chance to work.

Non-Bodywork Therapies

Sound, vision & speech therapies, vestibular exercises, acupuncture, energy healing, aromatherapy, neurofeedback, counselling, and similar therapies are complementary to this neuromuscular therapy.
